Background:
As Utah’s environment changes, relationships and partnerships are increasingly important to the resiliency, diversity, and prosperity of the legal profession. Since its inception in 2017, the Utah Center for Legal Inclusion (UCLI) has been establishing a solid foundation from which to build. Former Utah Supreme Court Chief Justice Christine Durham and attorney Fran Wikstrom are the co-chairs of the UCLI Fiduciary Board, and under their leadership programming and opportunities have expanded. In 2020, the UCLI Founding Sponsors provided crucial financial support that allowed programming, events, resources, scholarships, and fellowships to be initiated and to sustainably develop.Subsequently, UCLI has been spreading awareness about its programming to undergraduate students and law students across the state, and has seen participation increase in programs and events, as well as in its applicant pools to scholarships and fellowships. These programs have proven to be effective in providing resources to students in a changed and changing environment. While recent legislative measures have created barriers for students from historically underserved communities, UCLI hopes to expand its reach and impact, and to offer legal organizations in the local community an opportunity to partner on pipeline and pathway efforts that will make a difference for students – especially those students aspiring to join the legal profession.
For 2025, UCLI will offer a Sustaining Sponsorship opportunity to all interested legal employers and entities. The Sustaining Sponsorship project aims to develop and support strategic relationships between UCLI, the legal community, and students in Utah. Sustaining Sponsors will have exclusive opportunities to be recognized as inclusive leaders in the legal industry, along with yet distinct from the original Founding Sponsors. Take advantage of these opportunities and demonstrate your commitment to a representative legal environment by becoming a Sustaining Sponsor today.
