2025 Certification Community Engagement

Participating in any of the UCLI programs listed below will count towards satisfying Requirement #5 for the Core and Advanced levels of the UCLI Certification Program. If your organization hosts a similar program, or participates in a similar program run by a Utah State Bar affinity group, this may also satisfy Requirement #5.

Activity: serving as a volunteer attorney mentor to sixth grade students virtually by Zoom to provide feedback on their writing and critical thinking skills

Time commitment: 30 minutes between 10:30am-11:30am most Fridays during the academic year

OPTION 1

Activity: serving as a volunteer attorney mentor to one pre-law student and providing feedback and advice to them as they apply to law school and consider their future practice area; one in-person meeting required, all other contacts can be by phone, email, or Zoom

Time commitment: 5-15 hours across the calendar year; meetings scheduled at your convenience

OPTION 2

Activity: hosting one of the monthly Pre-Law Fellowship seminar at your offices on a Friday or Saturday, providing lunch and at least two attorney volunteers to be with the fellows during the seminar

Time commitment: one 5-hour block on one of the six workshop dates scheduled for 2025

Activity: serving as a volunteer attorney mentor to one law student and providing feedback and advice to them as they navigate law school and consider their future practice area; one in-person meeting required, all other contacts can be by phone, email, or Zoom

Time commitment: 5-15 hours across the calendar year; meetings scheduled at your convenience

Activity: having your firm partner with UCLI and Street Law to connect volunteer attorneys with a high school classroom multiple times over the course of a semester (training on the curriculum will be provided in advance). The law firm is also responsible for hosting a day-long legal careers conference for this high school classroom at its office. 

Time commitment: 10+ hours throughout the semester; additional time for training
