The Young Lawyers Division of the Utah State Bar (YLD) and the Utah Center for Legal Inclusion (UCLI), with the help of community sponsors, are pleased to announce the 2024 UCLI Bar Review Scholarship.
UCLI Bar Review Scholarship
Purpose
Graduating law students who have applied to sit for the July 2024 Utah State Bar Exam are invited to apply for a scholarship ranging from $500 to $2,000 to assist with test study and preparation. The scholarships will be awarded based on the students’ demonstrated positive community impact, potential to contribute positively to the Utah legal community, and financial need relating to bar exam expenses.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must:
- Be enrolled in a ABA accredited law school whose students are eligible to sit for the Utah State Bar Exam for the 2023-2024 academic year;
- Be an active member in a law school club or leadership organization;
- Have applied for the July 2024 Utah State Bar Exam; and
- Not have an employer or institution paying for the full costs of registration and test prep.
Selection Criteria
Awards are selected by a review committee appointed by YLD and UCLI and evaluated on the following criteria:
- Commitment to practicing in Utah;
- Demonstrated record of community service and engagement;
- Future potential to positively impact Utah’s legal community;
- Personal qualities and strengths;
- Polished and compelling nature of application materials; and
- Financial need in general, and more specifically related to bar exam and review costs.
Award
The scholarship helps to offset the expense of applying, studying for, and taking the Utah State Bar Exam by reimbursing the selected applicants up to their awarded amount. Qualifying costs include:
- Utah State Bar Exam Application Fees (includes base fee, computer fee, NCBE fees, MPRE fees);
- Courses and materials from the following providers:
- Barbri
- Kaplan
- Themis
- Quimbee
- Helix (AccessLex)
- Adaptibar
- Critical Pass
- Lean Sheets
- NCBE study aids
- Other study materials may qualify at the discretion of the review committee.
