The Antitrust Section of the Office of the Utah Attorney General has an immediate vacancy for an attorney. The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as is reasonable, considering the applicant’s current responsibilities.
The attorney will primarily practice antitrust law, and may also handle civil cases in related areas, including enforcement of Utah’s data breach statutes. These are typically complex cases that involve extensive discovery and motion practice, and require familiarity with federal and state procedural rules. The attorney will work with the other attorneys and support staff in the Antitrust Section, the United States Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, other federal agencies, assistant attorneys general from other states, private counsel, and financial experts. The job requires occasional travel.
This position is for an attorney who preferably has ten or more years of litigation experience, though the position may be filled with a less experienced attorney. Significant relevant trial experience is desirable, but not required. Experience in the practice of antitrust law or similarly complex litigation (e.g. MDL practice) is desirable, but not required. In addition to antitrust law knowledge and relevant trial experience, preference will be given to an applicant with formal education (e.g. masters, major, or minor) in economics or accounting, or completion of recognized training in data security and management (e.g. CIPP certification).
Membership in the Utah State Bar in good standing is required prior to completing probation; membership in good standing in the bar of a State or territory of the United States is required for probationary employment. The position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Telecommuting is permitted in accordance with established office policies as modified from time to time. Candidates are expected to reside in Utah by the end of the probationary period, but may request permission to reside outside of Utah on a case-by-case basis.
